Let's End Violence Against Women and Girls

It was fantastic to see our motion, Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, pass overwhelmingly at Autumn Conference 2021.

Christine Jardine MP gave a powerful proposing speech, setting up the tone of the debate. A number of emotional speeches were given, citing personal experience, statistics, and highlighting different points within the motion. Former MEP Caroline Voaden closed the debate, with a summation drawing out the key elements of the speeches throughout the debate.

Inspiring Lib Dem Women: Flo Clucas

Flo Clucas, pictured speaking for ALDE in Moscow in 2009, opens our new series profiling inspiring Lib Dem Women. A councillor in Liverpool for 26 years, Flo was deputy leader of Liverpool council and led the fight for significant EU funding which helped transform the city, later chairing the Objective 1 committee. She was appointed OBE in 2005 for services to the community in Merseyside. After 'retiring' to Cheltenham, she found herself on the Lib Dem-run council there two years later, where she continues to serve the residents of Swindon Village and as the cabinet member for healthy lifestyles.

Liberal women - pro trans rights open letter

As women and liberals we wish to make clear that we do not believe there is any conflict between women’s rights and trans rights.

In light of the ongoing campaigns against trans people we want to reassert our strength of feeling, which is in line with Liberal Democrat policy, that trans rights are indeed human rights.

Update, 19/9/2020. Despite the hard work to get it accepted and the backing from various MPs, unfortunately our motion was rejected for conference.

Liberal Democrat Women demand urgent action to save women's jobs Post-Covid. Women are more at risk of losing their jobs and experiencing serious financial difficulty as a result of the crisis, and this risk is heightened for Black, Asian and minority ethnic women, disabled women and LGBT+ women. Liberal Democrat Women have developed a set of practical policies that will protect women's jobs and ensure that women are able to benefit equally from Post -Covid economic stimulus.
